Fr. Keith Schmidt, Rector
Fr. Schmidt was born in Stratford, Ontario, and attended the local Lutheran Church in Tavistock with his family.
After finishing High School in Woodstock, Ontario, he came to McGill University in Montreal to study History. He completed both his B.A. and M.A. at McGill before beginning his theological studies at The Montreal Diocesan Theological College. It was while working on his Master’s thesis on the English Non-Jurors that he began attending the Church of St. John the Evangelist and was confirmed as an Anglican.
After completing his B.A. in Theology, he was appointed as lay assistant minister to the Parish of St. Sauveur-Morin Heights in the Laurentians. After a year there, he entered his final year of studies and was ordained as a Deacon in 1989, and subsequently appointed to the Parish of Mansonville, Bolton Centre and South Bolton in the Eastern Townships. He was ordained a priest on the Feast of the Annunciation in 1990 by Archbishop Reginald Hollis. He was appointed Associate-Priest of St. Philip’s Montreal West and Anglican Chaplain at the Montreal General Hospital in the fall of 1993. In 1997, he became priest-in-charge of St. George’s Chateauguay, while remaining chaplain at the Montreal General. On June 1, 2000, he was inducted as the ninth rector of the Parish.
