We hope that you will enjoy reading about our church and its activities. Since its inception in 1861, St. John's has been faithful to the mission set out by our founder, Father Edmund Wood: to uphold the fullness of Catholic faith and worship within the Anglican Communion. We believe in the centrality of Catholic worship and are committed to serving God in "the beauty of holiness" through the perfection of ritual, word, and music. "Openness to all" is a fundamental characteristic of the parish. Such openness brings together people from a broad spectrum of origins, opinions, and life experiences, making the congregation diverse, interesting, and stimulating.

St. Johns' is characterized by a strong sense of Catholic tradition: an orthodox and faithful theological and doctrinal outlook, a caring and compassionate attitude on moral and social issues, a full liturgical calendar, a liturgy faithful to the Western Rite, a rich and varied musical offering, and a diverse devotional life.

In addition, the parish is defined by its situation near the city centre, universities, shops, offices, and theatres. We are now delighted to find ourselves within of the “Quartier des Spectacles”. Our church is officially partnered with this cultural project. This municipal designation is completely transforming the whole neighbourhood. We are experiencing a revival of our parish as a venue for concerts and cultural events. The construction of many new housing units in our area is also heralding a return of a residential presence to this part of the downtown core.

Our congregation is a mixture of people from throughout the Montreal region and from as far away as upstate New York. Our parishioners find at St. John's the respect they are seeking and the "sense of holiness" that enriches their lives. The parish also attracts people from other denominations seeking a more traditional style of worship and a greater openness.

The present priest is The Rev. Keith Schmidt, who was inducted as the ninth rector of the parish on June 1, 2000.

We are located at 137 President Kennedy Avenue, Montreal, Quebec, H2X 3P6.  Click here for a map showing our location and driving directions to our Church.  Please join us in our Worship.

We are restoring some of our most beautiful vestments and fabrics:
a) Best White Chasuble (This will cost over $6,000 to restore.)
b) Easter Altar Frontal (A grant has been received from Quebec Religious Heritage to help defray the cost of the repair of this religious treasure. Our remaining costs are $2,000.
c) Blue Chasuble  (A donation has already been received to cover the full cost.)

We are enhancing the beauty of the building from the exterior:
d) Exterior Lighting (in conjunction with, and the support of the Quartier des Spectacles; in order to improve our visibility).
e) Uncovering windows (We hope to remove the opaque plastic that makes our stained glass windows invisible and gives the impression that the church is closed. This will be a project that will not start until the end of 2011.)
f) General Fund (Undesignated donations towards the upkeep of the church and its mission are always most welcome.)

We are making a cheerful noise unto the Lord:
g) Music Fund

And because it would most gladden His Heart …
h) St. Michael’s Mission (We continue to house the Mission on the premises. It feeds 150 to 200 of Montreal’s most needy people every weekday.)
